My personal message:

Hello!  Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and sponsoring me to run the 10k for Cancer Research  I'll be using this page as a weekly diary/blog, so you can all keep up to date with how my training is going!

Tuesday 29 September 2009

Hurrah!  It's over!  Bloody hell that was hard work!    I managed to do it in 1 hour and 15 minutes.  A little over my target time of 1 hour, but I am happy that I managed to keep up a good consistent speed around the entire course, including the rough surfaced up hill bits.  Sunday and yesterday my legs and knees were completely knacked.  Today I feel a lot better.  Although I don't think i'll be doing any more running just yet!  After a week or so I am going to buy myself some proper running shoes and start running round the block (2.5k) at least once a week to keep up my fitness level.  Will I do it again next year?  Who knows   Thanks again for all the donations.  There is still time to donate, so if you are feeling generous then any extra would be very much appreciated

Thursday 24 September 2009

Only a few days to go now!  I am feeling super fit after a 7k run on Sunday just gone.  Again a big thank you to everyone who has donated.  There is still time to donate before Sunday, so hopefully I can make a few more quid!  I'll be back with a final blog/diary post next week after the run

Monday 14 September 2009

I was a bit disappointed yesterday.  I only managed to run 5k before nearly throwing up.  Not surprisingly really, as I hadn't done any training since the previous weekend due to attending my brother-in-law's wedding up in Wolverhampton during the week.  I did work up a sweat on the cheesy disco dancefloor but I don't think it counts as exercise fuelled by copious amounts of red wine and cheese hahaha!  This week I really need to work on my stamina, started this morning with 40 lengths (1000 meters) at the pool, tonight a bike ride for at least an hour, followed by plenty more running/swimming/cycling the rest of the week.  I am determined to run 7.5k this coming weekend.  It is the day after Bristol festival but my mate Jayne and I have shaken hands on going for an early morning run.  Hopefully the moral support of a running partner will help.

Sunday 13 September 2009

What can I say, other than thanks again to everyone who has donated and helped me raise much more than I ever expected I could.  I am about to go out for a 7.5k run.  Next week will be swimming, running and cycling lots to further improve my stamina.  Next Sunday I hope to run nearly 10k, ready for the proper event the week after.  It is a lot of hard work but I have felt myself getting fitter and more healthy as time goes on.  Also I am starting to lose my excess beer belly podge, which is good.

Monday 7 September 2009

Wow!  I am over the moon with how much I have managed to raise!  Big love and respect to everyone who has donated so far.  Your generosity is awesomely fantastic :)  I have increased my target again, now set at £200.  Hopefully I can raise the extra few quid before the day.  Training is hard but going well.  I have been running 5k the previous week, planning to run 7.5k this coming weekend.  Not long to go now!

Monday 24 August 2009

The running is getting lots easier.  I went out at 7am this morning and ran the usual 2.4km circuit.  My body seems to be getting used to this running lark now, it's taking about 15 minutes before my body gets fully into the swing of things but after that I feel like I could keep running forever!  Next week i'll be running the circuit twice without stopping, almost 5k in total, halfway towards my target of 10k.  Thank you very much to everyone who has donated so far, I am chuffed to have already reached my original target of £100 as quick as this, so have increased my target to £150.  There will be no blog next week as I am away at a festival in Devon over the bank holiday weekend.  I'll be back with some up to date news week beginning 7th September.

Tuesday 18 August 2009

No swimming yesterday as I had a morning dentist appointment (gah!) so in the evening I went out for an hour bike round around Bristol city centre, including a slog up St Michael's Hill which absolutely knacked me!  The running is going well and getting easier.  Although I am still a long way off running 10k I am confident that over next few weeks I'll be able to increase my training enough so it'll be fine on the day.  Thank you to everyone who has donated to far.  I am close to my target of £100 which makes me smile lots!

Monday 10 August 2009

Training is going well!  Went down the pool for 30 lengths this morning.  Not as much as last week but i'm planning on going out for a run later this evening to make up for it.  The circuit I have been running (for those that are local and might like to know) goes from Ashley Hill, through the St Werburghs allotments, past The Farm Pub, follows the train track to Muller Road, cuts in past the farm to Boiling Wells lane, then through the Narroways back up to Ashley Hill.  Only about 2.4k but at least it's a start.  Need to step it up lots next week.

Monday 3 August 2009

Today is the day I start my training proper.  Started the week with a early morning swim of 40 lengths and felt pretty good afterwards.  The plan is to swim twice a week, run at least twice a week, and cycle once a week.  Hopefully I can keep that up!
